Bajaj Auto recently spiced up the mid-capacity segment with the launch of its biggest Pulsar ever, the NS400Z. The motorcycle has debuted at a very competitive price and will be locking horns with a host of models, including the flagship Hero MotoCorp bike, Maverick 440. Here, let’s quickly take a look at the engine specs, features and prices of these two rivals.

Hero holds the advantage in engine capacity with its larger 440cc, air-cooled single-cylinder engine, producing 27 hp and 36 Nm of peak torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox. However, its Bajaj counterpart utilizes a 373cc liquid-cooled engine derived from the Dominar 400, delivering significantly more power at 40 hp and 35 Nm of torque.

Both motorcycles are loaded to the gills with features such as all-LED lighting, digital instrument consoles and more. The Pulsar NS400Z features 4 riding modes, namely Sport, Road, Rain, and Offroad. It also gets 3 levels of traction control, and dual-channel ABS. For suspension duties, Bajaj has employed 43mm USD forks and preload-adjustable monoshock, while braking is managed by disc brakes on both ends.
In contrast, the Mavrick 440 features a rather modest telescopic forks and twin shock absorbers suspension system. It is equipped with disc brakes with dual-channel ABS. Other notable features include a fully digital console with smartphone connectivity for navigation, SMS, and call alerts. Bluetooth connectivity is available in the top variant. The motorcycle misses out on features such as traction control, riding modes etc.

The Pulsar NS400Z holds a slight edge in terms of pricing, with a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 1.85 lakh, undercutting the Hero Mavrick 440‘s base price of Rs 1.99 lakh.
