N Chandrababu Naidu was on Tuesday chosen as the new chief minister of Andhra Pradesh by the MLAs of his Telugu Desam Party as well as legislators of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jana Sena. 

“All MLAs of BJP, Janasena and TDP have given their consent for me to become Andhra Pradesh’s upcoming Chief Minister of NDA government,” Naidu said.

Earlier in the morning, Naidu was unanimously elected as TDP legislative party leader, party leader K Atchen Naidu said. The TDP chief is scheduled to take oath as CM at 11:27 am on Wednesday at Kesarapalli IT park near Gannavaram Airport in Amaravati.

In the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, NDA registered a massive victory winning 164 out of the 175 seats with TDP winning 135 seats, Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party (JSP) 21, and the BJP winning 8 seats.

“Andhra Pradesh has won! The people of Andhra Pradesh have won!Today, my  heart is filled with gratitude. I thank the people of our state for blessing the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance with an overwhelming mandate to serve them. Together, we have won a battle to reclaim our state, and together, we will rebuild it,” Naidu had posted on June 4, on the day election results were declared. 

In the Lok Sabha polls, the NDA performed well in Andhra Pradesh, securing 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The TDP won 16 seats, BJP three and JanaSena Party two.

Naidu began his political career as a student leader at the Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati. He joined the Congress and became a cabinet minister before jumping ship and joining the TDP, founded by his late father-in-law and cinema icon NT Rama Rao.

Naidu first became the chief minister in 1995 and went on to have another two terms as CM.

In 2014, he emerged as the first chief minister of the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh and served it until 2019.
