Mukhtar Ansari Death News: Former DSP Shailendra Singh said that during his tenure he had imposed POTA on Ansari but the Mulayam Government wanted to save him at any cost. Singh also said that he was made to resign within 15 days

Uttar Pradesh police conducted a flag march in Firozabad and Kasganj on Friday morning, while security was tightened in the districts after jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Banda.

A large force of police personnel was also deployed outside Banda Medical College Hospital, where Mukhtar died. Meanwhile, a crowd of Ghazipur residents thronged outside the gangster-politician‘s home as cops kept a close vigil.

Mukhtar’s son Umar Ansari alleged that the ‘don-neta’ was “given slow poison”. “Post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow, following which the body will be handed over to us. We will then follow with the further process (cremation). A panel of around five doctors has been made formed (for carrying out the post-mortem),” he said.

Developments Related to Mukhtar Ansari’s Death:

  • UP Minister and Nishad Party chief Sanjay Nishad spoke to the media on Ansari’s death and said, “Death is natural for every body that is born… People should believe in science because forensic examination is the only thing which can be trusted… The opposition has got nothing left but to blame. They should wait for the postmortem report.”
  • On the death of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari after a cardiac arrest, SP Mau said, “As soon as we received information of Mukhtar Ansari’s death, Mau Police immediately deployed personnel in sensitive areas. Today, we are on high alert because Friday namaz will also be offered… Some rumours have been doing the rounds that a curfew has been imposed in the region. Section 144 of the CrPC has already been imposed in Mau”. The SP also appealed to everyone to maintain peace and not believe in rumours. He further said that action will be taken against those who spread rumours.
  • The driver of the ambulance, carrying the body of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, said that the administration will tell him the route as they will be leading the convoy. He further said, “I am taking the body of Mukhtar Ansari… The administration will be able to tell where the body is to be taken”.
  • In connection to the case, former DSP Shailendra Singh told media, “20 years ago, in 2004, Mukhtar Ansari’s empire was at its peak. He would move around in open jeeps in areas where curfew was imposed. That time I recovered a Light Machine Gun, no recovery was made before or after that. I even imposed POTA on him… But the Mulayam Government wanted to save him at any cost.” Singh said that Ansari pressurised officials and IG-Range, DIG, and SP-STF were transferred. “Even I was made to resign within 15 days. But in my resignation, I wrote my reasons and put it before the people that this is the government you chose, which is protecting and working on the orders of mafias… I wasn’t doing a favour to anyone. It was my duty”, he added.

  • Another Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav asked whether the UP government will order a judicial inquiry into Mukhtar’s death.Taking to X, professor Ram Gopal Yadav wrote, “The circumstances under which former MLA Mukhtar Ansari died are extremely worrying. He had already filed an application in the court and expressed the fear of his murder by poison. In the current system, no one is safe in jail, nor in police custody, nor in their home.””By creating an atmosphere of administrative terror, people are being forced to keep their mouths shut. Is anyone safe on the basis of the application given by Mukhtar Ansari in the court? Will UP government order judicial inquiry?” he added.
  • Congress leader Surendra Rajput hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government and said, “Today Mukhtar Ansari’s death in the jail raises a big question BJP-led UP Government…This should be investigated thoroughly so that everyone gets to know what is going on.”
  • AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi reacted to Mukhtar Ansari’s death and said that Ghazipur people “lost their favourite son and brother”.In a post on X, Owaisi said “Inna lillahi wa inna ilahi rajiun. I pray to Allah to forgive Mukhtar Ansari and give patience to his family and his loved ones. @AfzalAnsariMP @yusufpore The people of Ghazipur lost their favorite son and brother. Mukhtar Saheb had made serious allegations against the administration that he was poisoned. Despite this, the government did not pay any attention to his treatment. Condemnable and regrettable.”
  • Samajwadi Party leader Ameeque Jamei demanded thorough investigation into Mukhtar’s death and said, “We stand with the family of Mukhtar Ansari… Recently he said that he can be murdered anytime… Why he was not given a proper medical facility…We will demand a thorough investigation of the incident…”
  • Mukhtar Ansari’s elder brother Sibgatullah Ansari said that he was not informed about the death by the administration, adding that he “saw it in media and came to know about it”. “He had been very unwell since 18th March and he was not being given any treatment despite raising an alarm again and again. On 25-26 March night, he was in a very bad condition, so he was brought to medical college for a few hours as a formality,” Sibgatullah said.
  • He added that Mukhtar was sent back as he was “stable” and was not given treatment. The Ansari family’s apprehensions were given in written to the High Court as well as the Supreme Court, however, “no cognisance was taken”, Sibgatullah said.
  • Visuals from Ghazipur showed that preparations for the funeral of Mukhtar Ansari at Kali Bagh Graveyard.
  • According to news agency ANI, a three-member team will conduct a magisterial investigation of gangster’s death. A panel of two doctors will do the post-mortem, which will be video-graphed.
  • BSP supremo Mayawati posted in a Hindi message of X (formerly Twitter) said, “The apprehensions and serious allegations made by Mukhtar Ansari’s family regarding his death in jail require a high-level investigation so that the facts of his death can come to light. In such a situation, it is natural for his family to be sad…”
