Electing to bat first, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished at 173 for 6 in the Indian Premier League 2024 inaugural match against the defending champion Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on March 22. At one stage, the Bengaluru side were tottering at 78 for 5.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru batsmen could not handle the bowling of CSK bowlers. Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman particularly was impressive.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru openers Faf du Plessis (35 off 23 balls) and Virat Kohli (21 off 20 balls) were quick to add 41 runs in just 4.3 overs. Mustafizur Rahman struck some telling blows by removing Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green in quick succession. Kohli was dimissed by Rahman. Glenn Maxwell was dismissed by Deepak Chahar for a nought.

Anuj Rawat (48) and Dinesh Karthik (38) retrieved the RCB innings to a respectable total.

Mustafizur Rahman finished his spell at 4 for 29. He took two wickets apiece in his first two overs.
