Reacting to Congress MLA’s comments, BJP’s Siddeshwara rued that despite women making a mark in all fields today, people like Shivashankarappa keep insulting them.

Amid the Lok Sabha election season, a senior Congress MLA has landed himself in soup while claiming that BJP’s woman candidate from Karnataka’s Davangere seat lacks the ability to address public issues effectively. He added, “…but they know only to cook in the kitchen.”

“As you all aware, she wanted to give a Lotus to Modi after winning the election. First, let her understand the problems in Davangere. We have done developmental work in the region. It’s one thing if you know how to talk, but they only know how to cook in the kitchen. The opposition party lacks the strength to talk in public,” MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa said while speaking at a party workers’ meeting on Friday.

Shivashankarappa’s remarks was aimed at BJP nominee Gayathri Siddeshwara, wife of incumbent MP and former Union minister G M Siddeshwara.

Reacting to Congress MLA’s comments, Siddeshwara rued that despite women making a mark in all fields today, people like Shivashankarappa keep insulting them.

“Women are making a mark in all fields today. It seems Ajja (Shamanur) is not aware of it. Shamanur has insulted women with his remarks. Are we confined only to the kitchen? Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given importance to women empowerment. But such people (like Shamanur) keep insulting women,” a report in Deccan Herald quoted BJP Lok Sabha candidate as saying.

Notably, the report stated that Shivashankarappa’s daughter-in-law Prabha Mallikarjun, a graduate in dental science, is the Congress nominee from Davangere.
